Kedeh Map has 12 Districts, with each district as an individual shape. They are Baling, Bandar Baharu, Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Kubang Pasu, Kulim, Langkawi, Padang Terap, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Sik, and Yan districts.

Kedah, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia, is the country’s eighth-largest state by land area and eighth-most populated state. The state has a total population of over 2.1 million people as of 2020.

The capital and largest city of Kedah is Alor Setar, which has a population of around 372,000 in the city proper. Other major cities in the state include Sungai Petani, Kulim, and Langkawi, the largest island in the Langkawi archipelago.

Economy and Importance

Kedah is considered the “rice bowl” of Malaysia, accounting for about half of the country’s total rice production. The state’s flat terrain and alluvial soil make it well-suited for paddy cultivation, and the government has taken steps to protect the rice industry by banning the conversion of paddy fields to other uses.

Beyond agriculture, Kedah has also developed its economy towards the automotive and aerospace industries, with companies like Modenas and Asian Composites setting up bases in the state. The state’s strategic location, with access to the North-South Expressway and Penang International Airport, as well as its relatively low labor costs, have made it an attractive destination for these industries.

The Kulim Hi-Tech Park, established in 1996, is the first high-technology industrial park in Malaysia and has further bolstered Kedah’s economic diversification. The park is part of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), one of the three major development regions in Peninsular Malaysia.

Tourism is also an important sector for Kedah, particularly on the island of Langkawi, which is a popular destination for its beaches, duty-free shopping, and natural attractions. The Langkawi International Airport, which hosts the biennial Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition, is also considered a tourist attraction in itself.
