Yamanashi prefecture is located in the Chūbu region of Honshu., with the division of 27 municipalities. Kōfu is the capital of Yamanashi prefecture with a population of 817 thousand in 2021. The neighboring prefectures are Saitama Prefecture to the northeast, Nagano Prefecture to the northwest, Shizuoka Prefecture to the southwest, Kanagawa Prefecture to the southeast, and Tokyo to the east.

The prefecture is known for its industrial base, particularly in Kōfu city, and its significant horticultural activities, including grape and peach cultivation, as well as wine production. Yamanashi is a major fruit-producing region in Japan and is the top domestic producer of grapes, peaches, plums, and wine. Additionally, the prefecture supplies approximately 40% of the mineral water bottled in Japan, sourced from areas around the Southern Alps, Mount Fuji, and Mitsutōge. Yamanashi’s importance lies in its contribution to Japan’s horticultural and wine industries, as well as its role as a major supplier of mineral water. The prefecture’s rich geography, including Mount Fuji, and its historical and cultural heritage also make it a significant region in Japan, attracting tourists and contributing to the country’s cultural and natural landscapes.
