Saga prefecture is located on the island of Kyushu, with the division of 20 municipalities including 10 cities and 10 towns. Saga is the capital and largest city of Saga prefecture with a population of 232 thousand in 2021. The neighboring prefectures are Fukuoka Prefecture to the northeast and Nagasaki Prefecture to the southwest.

• The 10 cities are Imari City, Kanzaki City, Karatsu City, Kashima City, Ogi City, Saga City, Takeo City, Taku City, Tosu City, and Ureshino City.
• The 10 towns are Arita-cho, Genkai-cho, Kamimine-cho, Kiyama-cho, Miyaki-cho, Omachi-cho, Shiroishi-cho, Tara-cho, Yoshinogari-cho, and Kohoku-machi.

Saga Prefecture has a rich historical and economic significance. As of October 2020, the prefecture is estimated to have a population of around 811,000 people, with its capital city being Saga. The total area of the prefecture is approximately 2,441 square kilometers.

• Saga’s major industries include foodstuffs, electronic equipment, and machine tools. The prefecture is a center for ceramic production, particularly Imari and Arita wares. Nori, a type of seaweed, is grown in the waters of the Ariake Sea, which also yield abundant catches of fish and shellfish. The Genkai Sea offers rich fishing, including sea bream, squid, and yellowtail. The area is also known for its cotton textiles and ceramic wares, with the town of Arita continuing to produce its characteristic china and pottery, called Imari ware .

Saga Prefecture is known for its seafood, including both high-end fish and a range of seaweed products. The prefecture’s natural beauty, historic sights, and ancient ruins contribute to its cultural importance. The area’s rugged northern coastline, sprawling tidal wetlands, and ancient ruins like the prehistoric Yayoi settlement inside Yoshinogari Park in Kanzaki add to its historical significance. Saga is also home to the vibrantly colored Yūtoku Inari Shrine, one of the most famous Inari shrines in Japan, and hot spring resorts like Ureshino Onsen and Takeo Onsen attract visitors seeking the therapeutic waters of the hot springs
