Explanation to the subdivisions.
- Firstly Greater Capital City Statistical Areas (GCCSA) are geographical areas built from Statistical Areas Level 4 (SA4) and are designed to represent the functional extent of each of the eight State and Territory capital cities. A minimum of 100,000 persons was set for the SA4s, although there are some exceptions to this. In regional areas, SA4s tend to have populations closer to the minimum (100,000 – 300,000). In metropolitan areas, the SA4s tend to have larger populations (300,000 – 500,000).
- Secondly, The SA4 regions are the largest sub-State regions in the Main Structure of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS), and have been designed for the output of ABS Labor Force Survey data and therefore have population limits imposed by the Labor Force Survey sample.
- Thirdly Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3) are geographical areas built from whole Statistical Areas Level 2 (SA2). They have been designed for the output of regional data. SA3s are designed to provide a regional breakdown of Australia. They generally have a population of between 30,000 and 130,000 people. In regional areas, SA3s represent the area serviced by regional cities that have a population over 20,000 people. In the major cities, SA3s represent the area serviced by a major transport and commercial hub.
- Finally The Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Local Government Areas (LGAs) are an ABS approximation of officially gazetted Local Government Areas as defined by each State and Territory Local Government Department.
Local Government Areas (LGAs)
Victoria is divided into numerous local government areas (LGAs) that manage local services and facilities. Some of the key LGAs in Victoria include the City of Melbourne, City of Geelong, City of Ballarat, and City of Bendigo. These LGAs oversee various aspects of local governance, including infrastructure, public services, planning and development, and community initiatives.
