Syria is a sovereign country in Middle East, with Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt as the neighboring countries. The administrative structure of Syria is composed of 14 governorates. Each governorate is divided into districts, then furthered split into sub-districts. There are total 62 districts and 272 sub-districts in Syria. Damascus is the national capital while Aleppo is the largest city.
The 14 governorates are Aleppo, Al-Hasakeh, Ar-Raqqa, As-Sweida, Damascus, Dar’a, Deir-ez-Zor, Hama, Homs, Idleb, Lattakia, Quneitra, Rural Damascus, and Tartous.
